I was born in Texas, but have lived in Boston for long enough to make it my hometown. I am a PhD student at Tufts University in their Math, Science, Technology and Engineering Education (MSTE) program. My research interests are spatial cognition and learning technology. Specifically, I'd like to find a way to enhance students' spatial skills so they can better understand scientific topics involving extreme ranges of scale (from quark clouds to galaxy clusters). I have a BS in astronomy and worked full-time for the American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) from 1998-2006. I still work there part-time during the school year and full-time during the summer and winter breaks. In August, 2004 I married Erma Cuenca. We got married once on a small boat in Gloucester Harbor and again on a beach in Bohol, Philippines where she has some family. Separated at birth: Hal 9000 & Hoag's object.
